Baidu Zhishi: User Generated Knowledge Aggregator on Baidu Zhidao
Baidu quietly launched a new product called Baidu Zhishi (百度知识掌门人) in last week, which shows Baidu’s further intention to build rich content around Baidu’s existing products and services.
Baidu Zhishi is a new service based on popular Baidu Zhidao (Q&A service), which has helped answer over 25 million questions so far. Baidu Zhishi allows users to create topic pages to better organize and aggregate quality answers from those 25 million questions. For each topic pages, you need to add at least three columns around the topic, with at least 5 questions selected from Baidu Zhidao in each column. Users can create content page regarding any topic they wish(of course, the topics will be reviewed and censored by human editors of Baidu), such as Chinese food culture, Sui Dynasty, and WOW.
In Baidu Zhishi, users only work as editors of Baidu Zhidao to select and reorganize the questions and answers in a more user-friendly manner, no wiki-style user collaboration is available, which makes it quite different from Baidu Baike, a wikipedia-like service. To some extent, it is similar to Squidoo, however, Baidu Zhishi limits the content source only on Baidu Zhidao.
Chang thought that Naver’s strategy of building a self-reinforcing cycle around Korean web content within its walled garden is a key success factor of Naver in Korea. It seems Baidu learns a lot from Naver’s success and it also start to build a self-reinforcing cycle around all its products and services, from Baidu PostBar, Baidu Zhidao to Baidu Zhishi and its content channels. But will it evolve into a walled garden as Naver too?

More and more contents channels push baidu to be a competitor of all chinese websites, maybe a good trend for google.

Is this similar to Google Knol?
BTW, thansk for linking!
Yeah, my first impression is that this is very similar to what google was talking about for Google Knols…
Any ideas of if Baidu Zhishi going to split advertising revenue with the content creator?
