News Roundup: Douban, Qzone, iNeZha and Tianji

The change of China’s foreign investment rules to influence China’s Internet industry: Last week, China’s National Development and Reform Commission announced the issuance of a revised Catalog for the Guidance of Foreign Invested Enterprises (Revised 2007). According to the new catalog, the news website, online video and audio service, the operation of Internet cafe and online cultural operation are prohibited from foreign investment. It seems Youtube will not have chance to enter Chinese market, and Paul Denlinger’s proposal of foreign Internet cafe franchise has been dead.

Douban 1 million users: Douban, a famous web 2.0 company in China, just reached a new milestone today: it now has over 1 million users. Though 1 million may not be a big number for some other websites, for example, 51.com claimed it has about 90 million registered users now, Douban is still my most favorite Chinese web 2.0 service. Congratulations to Ahbei!

Qzone release a blog import tool: Qzone, the blogging service by Tencent, released a blog import tool recently. It enables users to import their previous blog posts into Qzone platform, it now support importing from 51.com, Sohu blog, Sina blog and Netease blog. The import will be completed in 12 hours. But actually, you can also use this tool to steal other’s posts to post it in your Qzone automatically.

iNeZha(Anothr) add more social features: iNeZha, previously known as Anothr, rolled out more social features. Now you can use @friend name to send messages to your friends directly. Since users typically use an IM bot to track iNeZha’s message, the new feature then enables you to send instant messages to your contacts across IM platform. But maybe we should use Twitter, rather than this feature, to follow our friends’ updates.

Rumor: Tianji to be acquired by Viadeo: Tianji, you may find this name from the partners list of Google Open Social platform. Tianji is also one of the pioneer of business social networking sites in China. I just heard a rumor that Tianji will soon announce its acquisition by Viadeo, a European business social networking site. Currently, Tianji has partnered with Viadeo to provide European business opportunities to its users.

[...] iNeZha, previously known as Anothr, has expended its service to more than an IM tool-based rss reader. You can add friends, send messages to your friends inside your IM tools, and now iNeZha work as a life streaming which aggregate lost of your public social media feeds, similar to soup.io or Friendfeed.
