Maifou: The online Shops Platform from Comsenz
Comsez, the developer of Discuz! which is the most popular online forum software in China, launched a new service called Maifou.net. Maifou.net is a free hosted online shop service based on ECShop, the open source online shop software acquired by Comsenz in August.
Last week, Baidu announced its ecommerce strategy to enter C2C market to compete with existing market leader Taobao.com. Now Comsenz would like to get a share from this big market too by this new service.
Obviously, Maifou.net has its own advantages, such as more flexible to build online shops, more template to choose. Comsenz may also integrate it with 5d6d.com, a free online forum hosting service, to let every seller to have a forum to communicate with their buyers. But to compete with Taobao and Baidu, Comsenz need to greatly enhance the ecommerce eco-system around Maifou, such as payment system and logistic system. Maifou now support Alipay, a very popular online payment service by Alibaba, but sellers have to pay 3% of their trade volume to Alipay.
On the other hand, it has been rumored for a long time that Google China has invested US$ 5 million into Comsenz. So Maifou may possibly become Google China’s trial in China’s C2C market later, and it will also help Google China to introduce Google Checkout into China.
Prior to Comsenz, ShopEX, another online shop platform developer, launched similar service Wdwd.com in September, it is the direct competitor of Maifou.net.

Such policies can highly reduce the cost to attract new users for SNS sites, and make users to manage their various niche social networks better and more efficiently. We noticed that Comsenz provides hosted service for BBS and online shops, so maybe it will also launch a hosted SNS platform as what Ning.com does. [...]
