Digest into CnBloggerCon

The first Chinese Blogger Conference has ended last week successfully. They’ve discussed a wide range of topics including RSS, Web2.0 and Podcast. Now we digest into the blogosphere’s reaction, question and doubt.

Rebecca MacKinnon, the moderator of the “Blogging Beyond Borders” Panel wrote a lengthy and terrific post regarding her experience in the conference. She explain the importance of building a social network on Chinese internet:

Web2.0 is potentially a very Chinese thing. One of the most important words in the Chinese language is “guanxi.” It means relationship. ” Whatever you think about the term “Web2.0”, the point is that social networking and relationship-building are at the core of toady’s most exciting web innovations. The Chinese happen to be the most natural and skilled social networkers on earth.

Immediately after the conference, BBC contacted Wangjianshuo and Issac Mao for a live interview. They talk about the issue of censorship:

Not surprisingly, she asked about censorship again. I have formed a formula that BBC interview = censorship question interview… Actually, I am not comfortable that my words were taken out of the context to support another view that I don’t agree.

However not everyone is happy about the post by WangJianshuo as Fons Tuinstra said. They pointed out that since censorship is a big question there is no way to avoid talking about it.

James Na talk with Rebecca on issues related with freedom of expression. He quoted the powerful phrase “you are not going to get anywhere by openly defying or opposing it”

Micah Sittig take a look at different groups on at the CBC:media, companies, evanglisers and hobbyists.

Cathyma observed the amazing phenomenon of covering and participating through new internet technology: Blog, Live Stream Media, and Podcast. That’s a good example of how internet empowered Chinese netizens.

XiaoRong, a conference organizer, explained on his blog how he got inspiration to design the official badge and logo. It should be noted that the conference was organized by blogger themselves voluntarily; no one got pay. This demonstrate the power of Smart Mobs of Chinese Bloggers.
