Uhello: Exchange Time for Money

Not sure whether Uhello is inspired by the creative idea of Million Dollar Homepage, Uhello is also site to sell the homepage for money, but its charge is based on length of time the ads display, not on cells.

Different from Milliondollarhomepage, homepage of Uhello only display a site or a piece of advertisement at the same time, but you should pay for every minute for appearance(maybe you visit it and find nothing in homepage, that’s because they still haven’t found enough advertisers). The whole day has been divided into three time period with different charge rate. For example, time period between 11 am to 24 pm, the charge is RMB 1 yuan per minute and you can buy at most 45 minutes for this time period each day.

Maybe you think only an advertisement in homepage will not attract enough visitors to generate traffic and revenue. But it may show different ads every minute when you refresh it, the characteristic of uncertainty and surprise may induce you to visit it from time to time, so get high traffic and eyeball.

Taking milliondollarhomepage-like idea to market itself, Uhello also set up a page full of cells in Chinese characters, which is a famous article by Zhuge Liang. If any blogger write a post about Uhello, he can apply for right to use one of those cells to place advertisement for himself.

Due to underdevelopment of online advertising market in China, maybe Uhello will not generate much revenue, but I should applaud their idea when comparing with those milliondollarhomepage clones in China.

[...] Following Milliondollarhomepage, many kinds of similar ideas can be found from time to time. Here is one of the latest. Chen Bin (aka. Icebin), a Chinese blogger, now intends to sell the pixel on header of his blog for cost of RMB 100 Yuan per year per pixel. Not sure the traffic of Icebin’s blog, but his feedburnered feed has about 600 subscribers. How many of the pixel on his blog will be sold finally? Maybe it is not important to Icebin, the buzz on his idea has generated enough attention and traffic to his blog already, and it is also a helpful attempt to explore the advertising value of blogs.
