Hipihi Launches Closed Beta Test

Hipihi, the Chinese virtual reality platform, just launched its closed alpha on this Monday. About 1,000 users will be invited to test Hipihi. The closed beta will be divided into four phases, now it is the first phase named “Sundering the Heavens and Splitting the Earth”. If you have no problem in Chinese, you may fill a form (doc file) to apply for a test account.

Gang Lu has a very informative post on his experience in Hipihi, allow me to quote some of his feelings here.

Mostly exciting, a bit frustrating at the beginning, plus a bit boring.

you can chat, have some funny action and lots of pre-defined objects (such as building, cars, trees, decoration, etc) for you to use.

What is the frustrating bit at the beginning? I tried to use the Arrow keys to walk, nothing happen, I know I could create some nice objects, but did not know I should claim a land first where you can place all the stuff you build.

In fact, my first day’s experience is the same as Gang Lu’s, but maybe I’m more frustrated than him. When I login in Hipihi, I just can not figure out how to move myself, then I have to tried every keys on my keyboard to find out the solution. Yes, you may say I should read manual first. But I do hope Hipihi will improve its usability during beta test, esp. in helping a new user to start his journey in Hipihi.

The most frustrated experience for me is the instability, I lost my connection frequently, and sometimes I have to retry several times to get it reconnected again. I’m not sure whether it is just me who have this problem. Due to it, I have to finish my first day explore in Hipihi World. Anyway, they just launched private beta for less than a week, it is not surprising to encounter various problems. I will continue to test it when I have time, and inform you the latest development of Hipihi, or is there any information you want to know about this virtual world?

Hipihi has successfully made time poor person to play game. I would like to know 1) besides walking around, chatting, building house, making virtual items, what else players can do, 2) How the financial system works in this world, 3) Have any real life organizations like media or companies entered this world?

Luyi, since their beta test is divided into several phases, in this very first phases, you can do just very limited things. There is no financial system in it so far, the financial system will be introduced in phase four of beta test. So it is obvious that no real life organizations will enter Hipihi World in this beta test.
