Linktone to Launch Mobile RSS Reader

Linktone (Nasdaq: LTON), one of leading wireless value added service providers in China, will launch a mobile RSS reader service tomorrow, the first mobile rss reader service in China. Currently, the service is free, exclusive of GPRS fee paid to China Mobile.

Linktone Mobile RSS service, based on KJava technology, applies to almost all cellphones of Nokia and most of the new cellphones of Moto and Sony-Ericsson. For other cell phones, a general version is available for download and use.

Before using it, you need to visit http://www.feedegg.com/reader.wml from mobile phone or send short message to download the reader first, then you can add and group RSS feeds to read the conent, and label posts as favorite.

According to usage behavior of mobile users, Linktone introduce a concept of Shortcode to simplify the input of long RSS URL in mobile phone. You can visit its webpage to generate a 8-digit shortcode for any RSS feed or several RSS feeds(similar to an opml file). For example, the shortcode for China Web2.0 Review is 62000016, it is much more easier to input than the original feed URL in mobile phone. Bloggers can also use this service to generate shortcode for their RSS feed, and publish it in blogs to facilitate mobile readers to subscribe their blogs.

Though free currently, Linktone will introduce subscription bussiness model for this service later. For some RSS feeds, the subscriber will need to pay monthly fee to read them, and Linktone will share the revenue with bloggers. And Linktone is also developing an online rss reader to sync with its mobile version. Reading RSS by MMS, WAP or even by SMS may also be introduced later.
