Huolat Knows Your Blog Hot or Not
Huolat is both an online reader and a blog promotion platform. In this read/write web age, you must be both reader and writer, so you can enjoy every feature in this service.
It’s backed by a Beijing based startup. The service launched on Sept. 28 2006. The linked article is from their official blog.
As a blog promotion platform, it learned the UI from the famous Hot or Not.
If you don’t know what is Hot or Not, it shows you one picture at a time, and you simply rate the picture so that you can see the next one. The UI is very simple, but it’s one of the hottest dating communities in US.
Huolat has implemented this idea with blog profile. In blog show, you see one blog profile a time and you must rate the blog to see the next one.
Is this a good way to encourage user to rate blogs? Maybe. There’re some psychology factors behind this UI design. You never know what next blog it would show you. Go and try it. We have already discovered some interesting blogs though this way.
Huolat is also an online reader. You can subscribe to blogs either by entering the URL or by discovering blogs in the system. Its reading panel is designed a bit like Google Reader. You can navigate up and down with hotkeys.
What differentiates Huolat from other online readers is that it generates a community based on people reading the same blog. You simply join the group by subscribing to that blog. In each reader group, there’s a bulletin board for readers to communicate. It also has an in-site instant message system, so that readers can chat in real time.
Readers can tag, vote and comment on posts while they are reading. Huolat has a central place for you to see what other people have tagged, voted and commented. When you read posts tagged by others, the system also provide a list of recommended posts on right side.
This reader is good for casual style reading. If you are looking for productive applications, Google Reader, Bloglines and Zhuaxia are still your choices.
