Baidu To Start People Search

Baidu recently sent an email to some of its active users, said it will launch a new people search service. (via Baiduer)

Baidu people searchBaidu sent the email to ask its users to access this address (Baidu user login in required) to enrich their profiles in Baidu by adding more details about their sex, age, residence, your school and university, books, musics, movies you love, your interests and others. Then other users can find you by searching. The search page is accessible already(see screenshot in the right).

We don’t know whether it will be a separate service or a service inside Baidu Space. Though Baidu has suggested to launch such service when Baidu Space launched in July, it is still interesting to ask why Baidu launch it. Will Baidu want to build a social networking service around its Space? Or even eye on China’s MySpace?

I knew that biggest Chinese people search engine called ucloo.com, which has 90M personal file. Is this part of Baidu company?

ucloo.com is not a Baidu company. It is a very controversial service, since it indexed the user database from some popular alumni social networking site.
