City8: Online Map With Real Local View
City8 is a Shanghai-based startup who want to develop and offer a local search service with real local view, currently only limited to Shanghai map.
City8 has most of the main features of other China’s online map services, such as find a location, a business, and get instructions on bus lines or driving direction. In fact, it seems City8 is using the service from Mapabc, the map service partner of Google China’s Local service.
What makes City8 different is its real local view similar to street-side of Microsoft Live Local. You can find the panarama view of the location you searched, which enable you to know how it looks like and the surroundings. If you like, you can also “walk” around the street by using mouse. According to my test, the speed is quite satisfying, and the change of the views is smooth. But the navigation on the real view still need improvement.

The company behind City8, Jietu Software, is an established provider of panorama software and virtual tour software both in china and abroad. Jietu has over 5000 customers so far, which includes big companies such as Intel, Siemens, Harvard University etc. So Jietu applies their VR(virtual reality) technology to lauch City8 on July.
