Portal 2.0: PCHome’s Web2.0 Initiative

Portal 2.0PCHome, an infamous internet portal in Taiwan, launched a new site called Portal 2.0 in early June with the aim to explore the opportunites in web 2.0 development.

Portal 2.0 currently includes six different services:

It is obvious that PCHome want to use Portal 2.0 to find new development path in web 2.0 world. Is it “2.0″ enough? It seems many bloggers in Taiwan don’t agree. All these Portal 2.0 service does not provide RSS feed, some service don’t support Firefox. Someone thought that “it appears that RSS was not included in these sites because it provided users a means to view site content without seeing ads, and AJAX was dropped because it reduced pageviews (and consequently ad impressions).”

I agree with bloggers in Taiwai. If you still try to build a web 2.0 service in manner of web 1.0, I don’t think it will be successful.
