SubscribeBaidu: News Open Protocol Service
Baidu, the most popular search engine in China, just launches a service named Baidu News Open Protocol(互联网新闻开放协议). This new Baidu NOP service, similar to Google’s sitemap service, allows webmasters to submit a xml file on the information of the site to Baidu for quick and effective indexing.
However, unlike Google Sitemap, Baidu NOP service is only applied in news sites, not for all kinds of website, and it exlucdes blog, BBS and audio/video infomation from it. In additon, Google Sitemap is a two way communication, you can know the crawler’s reponse to the sitemap file, but in Baidu, what you can do now is just submiting your xml file.
Releasing two major features in two days(another is news clustering), Baidu is obviously eager to improve its news service. But I just cannot understand why they don’t include approved blogs as trusted news sources, as blog is becoming a more and more important news source.
