UUZone To Close Its Website
When we are talking all those hype of China’s SNS sites in 2008, such as Xiaonei.com and Kaixin001.com, you will not remember a site called UUZone, which is one of the first SNS sites in China. I guess many of you may not even hear of it. Actually, I also think it has been shut down for a long time. But today I read the news in Netease that UUzone announced it will fully shut down its website in a month. I think that is the first time in over a year I heard the news of UUzone again.
UUzone, backed by Morningside, was founded by Robert Mao in 2003. In 2005, UUzone was a quite popular SNS sites in China. But at the end of 2006, Robert Mao left UUzone for some reasons. He now works in Microsoft in Europe(check our interview with him on open SNS). In Feb 2007, UUzone’s users cannot access the website for several months without any announcement. Since then, it seems there is no new features development on UUzone. That’s why I’m quite surprised that it is still alive till today.
Besides UUzone, there is rumor that Linkist, another early SNS sites in China, also discontinued its development since late 2008.
