Xiaonei.com Announced its Open Developer Platform
We’ve heard Xiaonei.com is working on open platform for a long time. Possibly because of 51.com’s announcement of open developer platform plan in last week, Xiaonei.com, the so-called China’s Facebook, can not wait to announced its open developer platform before it is fully ready. It even is not announced in Xiaonei’s official blog, but in a blog post of its staff.
According the post, Xiaonei currently has finished the development of widgetization of Xiaonei’s platform, which will allows users to be able to add new apps or delete them. But I’m not sure whether the open API has been implemented, since so far in apps directory, there are only apps developed by Xiaonei or Oak Pacific Interactive, the holding company of Xiaonei. The post said the third-party apps will be added into the platform in several weeks later.
The post did not disclose more details of the open platform, for example, what kinds of API it will offer, whether it will be compatible with any current open standards, how developers can join the open platform, how the platform will deal with the risk of spamming in the platform. It just seems like an unfinished product rushes out and claims itself the first one in the market.
With Xiaonei and 51.com plan to launch their open developer platform soon, and Google China and Myspace.cn are promoting OpenSocial platform, the open platform war is beginning in China.
If all these three platform are not compatible, who will be the most attractive to the developers? Because of relatively small no. of users, Myspace.cn will not be so attractive, but it might benefit from its international platform. 51.com has the biggest users base among three, but its users are younger than those of Xiaonei, and 51.com does not have good reputation. Anyway, no matter who has the most popular developer platform, the China’s Internet ecosystem will likely benefit from these open initiatives.

[...] After announcing developer platform in May, Xiaonei finally launched its developer platform yesterday. Quite similar to Facebook, you need to add a Developer App to manage your apps on Xiaonei. Currently, Xiaonei allows developers to use iframe or XNML(Xiaonei Markup Language, what Facebook is using is called Facebook Markup Language) to develop apps. [...]
